Aug 8: Cedar Rapids Special Olympics Sunset 5K

Race to raise money for Cedar Rapids Special Olympics athletes! Join us for a 5K Race and 1M Fun Run/Walk through Seminole Valley Park and Usher’s Ferry. Our run/walk route is cross country style – a mix of gravel and dirt roads. Enjoy the scenery as the path leads you into the sunset and along the Cedar River. End the night at our Sunset Send-off – a post-race celebration with food, drink, and live entertainment! All proceeds benefit the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department Special Olympics program. Additional options to Sponsor an Athlete are available.

Sept 20: Doggie Dash 5K

Time: 8:00 AM, Location: Hartman Reserve Nature Center, 657 Reserve Drive CEDAR FALLS, IA 50613
Details: Hartman Reserve Nature Center will be hosting “Doggie Dash,” a 5K run/walk on September 20th where you and your pet (not required) can take in the scenic view of the nature center & the different wildlife along the trail. Registration will begin June 2nd & packets may be picked up the day before from 5-7pm or 6:30am on race day. Visit our website at www.hartmanreserve.org for more information.

To keep our dogs safe, we have put in place the following regulations: Have a current rabies certificate for the dog running with you. No dogs in heat. Dogs must be on a leash (max 6′) for the entire race. If found off-leash, you will be disqualified. No headphones. No strollers. Water will be available for both peoples and dogs along the race course.
WHERE: The Doggie Dash route will be located north of the bike trail in Hartman Reserve. A map of the course is shown below (Map A). The run will be 5 kilometers, and will be on partially hard surface and partially gravel. Check-in and Late Registration will take place at the Nature Center. Please park at the parking lot located at 657 Reserve Drive (Map B). Overflow parking is available at River Hills School on Grand Blvd (Map C). October 25: Grant Wheeler Faith 5K

Grant Wheeler graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1985. Grant was passionate about music, cars, the Green Bay Packers, running, and his family. Married, and the father of two young boys, Grant was killed in a tragic car accident in 2002 preparing to leave to run the Twin Cities Marathon. In 2003, an Endowment Fund was established to award scholarships annually to area senior distance runners who share Grant’s passion for running and his faith, displaying it through strength of character and acts of love and encouragement.
The race committee has awarded 49 scholarships since 2004 totaling $46,000. This year’s race entry fees will go directly to scholarships to be awarded in 2015.

Oh, that’s right Turkey Trotters, you’ve heard the stories about this cross-country course! =) …Take a scroll through the woody Hartman Reserve and finish with an endurance climb that will challenge all!

This Fun Run/Walk will be no more than 4 miles along trails and service roads within Hartman Reserve Nature Center. Trail surfaces will vary from woodchipped trails to gravel roads to paved surfaces! What a terrain variety! Much of the course is flat, HOWEVER, there will be at least ONE STEEP climb of about 600 feet! Please note that this event WILL NOT BE CANCELLED due to bad weather!
